Artificial Intelligence: Ethics and Societal Challenges is the third AI-related MOOC from Lund University available on Coursera.org. This course explores ethical and societal aspects of the increasing use of AI technologies. The aim of the course is to raise awareness of ethical and societal aspects of AI and to stimulate reflection and discussion upon implications of the use of AI in society.

In the first module, we will discuss algorithmic bias and surveillance. In this course, we will explore Machine Learning and Neural Networks in particular. The objective is to reveal the simplicity at the core and cut through the jargon. Among other things, we will go deep into: What are Neural Networks and how are they trained? How do Neural Networks analyze images and text? How important is data? ASP – Answer Set Programming

Viktiga grundstenar inom AI är det vi kallar kunskapsrepresentation och resonemang (KRR). Inom dessa finns metoder för att lösa svåra sökproblem. En sådan metod kallas Answer Set Programming (ASP) som används framgångsrikt för att lösa problem inom områden som bioinformatik, schemaläggning, schemaläggning, dynamisk omkonfigurering och programvaruteknik. Du får lära dig hur man använder ASP så att intelligenta system kan hantera autonoma beslutsprocesser.

Our society has been revolutionized by the use of computers and the exchange of information over the Internet. This revolution is taking place in industry as movements like Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet Consortium attest. Industries must integrate this technology to stay competitive. Since this is a new technology, it is usually purchased. The question that this course aims to answer is what requirements should be made when purchasing such solution.

The students will learn how industrial IoT solutions work and have to develop a simple solution for their industry to grasp the implications of the requirements they make when purchasing a solution.

About the course

The course contains both theoretical and practical components. The theoretical part covers basic Internet communication, Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber Physical Systems (CPS). It also covers the Eclipse Arrowhead framework as an example.

The practical part uses a development board with a modern microcontroller that measures temperature (among others). The students connect securely over the Internet the development board to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and are able to subscribe to the sensor values in a web browser. No prior programming knowledge is required.

This course is a first advanced introduction to computer vision and image processing. Topics that yesterday are i.a. camera modeling, multi-view geometry, reconstruction, some low-level image processing (eg image segmentation) and high-level data (eg object detection). The last part of the course describes different frameworks and programming libraries focused on applications. The course introduces the mathematical aspects and the background to the methods which are then applied in practice in different projects.

Mycket av framgången inom fältet artificiell intelligens (AI) under de senaste 10-15 åren kommer från framsteg inom AI-delområdet maskininlärning. I maskininlärning jobbar vi med algoritmer och metoder som lär sig att utföra uppgifter genom att använda data. Uppgifterna kan vara alltifrån att upptäcka en orimlig temperaturökning i en sensor, bedrägerier eller spam-epost, till att förutspå sjukdom eller åt vilket håll ratten ska vridas i en självkörande bil. Datan kan vara alltifrån formulär, opinionsundersökningar och mätningar till bilder, text eller ljud.

Kursen ger en introduktion till några av de vanligaste och mest välanvända verktyg och metoder i maskininlärning, visar på användbarheten i sådana metoder för att lösa praktiska problem samt ger de verktyg som behövs för att använda och utveckla maskininlärningsbaserade lösningar på dina egna dataproblem.

Kursen går igenom många av de vanligaste maskininlärningsmetoderna, tillhörande teori och algoritmer, och tar upp allt från klassiska regressions- och klassificeringsmetoder till den senaste utvecklingen inom djup maskininlärning (eng. deep learning). De tre viktigaste förväntade studieresultaten för de som går kursen är:

  • Beskriva och förklara en del av de mest centrala begreppen och metoderna inom maskininlärning, t.ex. regression, klassificering, klustring, dimensionsreduktion, ej
  • väntevärdesriktig/varians, över- och underanpassning, osv.

Kursen motsvarar 3 ECTS-poäng och består av sju föreläsningar och praktiska övningar. Kursen är uppdelad över tre dagar med föreläsningar och övningar, samt en fjärde dag med en slutföreläsning och presentationer av hemuppgifterna. Kursen är utvecklad vid Institutionen för datavetenskap, Umeå universitet, och är en del av AI Competence for Sweden. Ett bevis på deltagande kommer att delas ut, men det är inte möjligt att få formella poäng i denna upplaga av kursen. För att bra maskininlärningsmodeller ska kunna tas fram med hjälp av de algoritmer som diskuteras på kursen ”Introduktion till maskininlärning – del I” så krävs det att datamaterialet används och förbehandlas på rätt sätt.
